Dear Friends,
It is Pentecost Sunday and the conclusion of the Easter Season. It has been a busy season at our parish with many signs of the Holy Spirit presence in the life of parishioners. Since Easter, 57 children have received First Holy Communion and 83 young people have been sealed with the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Don’t forget, 9 people were received into the church at the Easter Vigil. These are all signs of a Holy Spirit presence in the ministries of our parish. To all who celebrated the sacraments of initiation this Easter season – CONGRATULATIONS! To all who shared in their religious formation – THANK YOU!
Now its onto “ordinary time” and summer AFTER Vacation Bible School (VBS)! Registration is still open.
You will find in the bulletin a QR code for making a donation to Divine Mercy Parish in Allegany County. As you may recall, the area served by the parish was devasted by recent flash floods. National news showed films of students being evacuated by boat from Westernport Elementary School. The estimated damage to several small towns is estimated to be over $80m. Divine Mercy Parish, which serves the area, consists of 6 locations and 1 priest! St. Peter’s, Westernport lost boilers, air conditioning units and water heaters. St. Gabriel’s, Barton lost everything in its basement (furnace, furniture, kitchen appliances, etc.). (BTW - I am a native son of St. Peter’s). The economy of the area took a huge hit several years ago when the Luke paper mill closed. The paper mill had been the economic engine of the community for over 100 years.
As a reminder, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available after weekend Masses. Please let an usher or a priest know of your desire for the sacrament.
Finally, remember in your prayers the repose of the soul of Cathy Kehoe who passed away last Saturday. She is survived by her husband Carl and son Brian. Services are pending.
Have A Good Week!
